RaiseTheGame:

Fempowerment

A diversity focused local event with partnerships from academic and national trade organisations.

The Fempowerment event took place at Norwich University of the Arts and was a collaborative event between Fairer Games, RaiseTheGame (Ukie) and the university. The event was the conclusion of season 2 of the #RaiseTheGame Activity Select series. We saw 100-plus attendees ranging from students, alumni of the university, indie developers and local professionals from the wider area; a range of people in attendance showing how appealing and interest there was for the event.

The event was recorded via Panopto and can be watched here.

"Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, the atmosphere was electrifying and truly made me happy to see how much people cared about inclusive networking and other topics of the night. It is vital for #RaiseTheGame to work with partners, especially on a local level as Fairer Games and Norwich University of the Arts know the landscape, have the connections and when we join our forces together it creates greater impact locally and industry wide. The Fempowerment event showed people care about EDI matters, want to connect with each other, and most of all the importance of collaboration as Steph, Robin and Jake truly made it fantastic experience that I would jump at the chance to do it again.”

Women in Games

Global Awards

A global awards ceremony celebrating the innovating and inspiring women working in the games industry.

The Global Awards were a joy to organise, recruit and manage - bringing together the voices of women from across the world working in games. In 2021 the closing event of the Women in Games Festival was the amazing Global Awards, in partnership with Ginx TV Ltd, with the support of PlayStation, Testronic, Hangar 13 and Sumo Digital Ltd.

The 2022 awards were streamed to Twitch so that a global audience could tune in and championed the diversity of the industry.

“Having worked with Robin on several projects at Women in Games, I've seen first hand how good she is at organising large events both in person & virtually.

She's great at working with multiple stake holders both internally & externally to produce events that are at the top of their game.

I would not hesitate to recommend & hope we can work together on many more projects.”

Tata Varsity Pitch

A national business pitching competition for students and graduates.

The Varsity Pitch Competition is a flagship event in the UK’s Global Entrepreneurship Week. Whilst working at the National Association for College and University Entrepreneurs), Robin organised the event for 2014, 2015 and 2016 - working closely with corporate partners Tata, NatWest and Microsoft.

Robin was responsible for working with academic partners, recruiting applications, organising sponsorship and judges, mentors and the 3-stages of the competition: Semi-finals, Speed Mentoring and the Grand Final.

Winners and Finalists of the competition have gone on to found and grow companies such as Beryl Bikes, DoubleDutch Tonics, Adaptavate.

“If I had to describe Robin in one word it would be ‘efficient’. I’ve worked with Robin on a few collaborative projects between Tata and NACUE including the Varsity Pitch. She is very detail-oriented which helps events run smoothly, reliable and incredibly personable; allowing those around her to feel at ease. Furthermore, she has always professionally handled numerous last minute changes or requests for projects we’ve worked together on.”

Student Enterprise

Conference

Students from across the UK came together for a two-day conference with over 40 speakers across panels, workshops and talks.

Robin worked with every stakeholder for the event, the University of Lincoln, the student societies, speakers, volunteers and sponsors for the event which included Paypal. As any organiser knows, the show must go on and when extreme weather conditions stranded the keynote speaker in Scotland, a workaround plan and a video link was set up in record time!

“Robin was the reason Swiss Re chose to get involved with NACUE in 2017. She made a stellar case and recommendation of their program - so much so that I had to pass it on to our MD, who agreed sponsorship was a win win for us! Robin handled our partnership very well and was always on hand to make any introductions or take care of us! Was definitely impressed with the level of care for the startups on the program!”

Norwich Games

Festival

A week-long event in the heart of Norwich City Centre - The Forum - which welcomes 1000s of visitors every year.

When volunteering with Norfolk Game Developers at the start of 2014, The Forum approached the organisers to see if they could support and expand their existing event; Retro Replay. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, Robin and the NGD organisers said yes straight away and got to work creating a ten-day event including a game jam, panels, workshops, speakers and exhibitors. The event saw on average 3,000 visitors a day to The Forum and continues to grow in footfall, presence and prestige and is now organised by Ellie Buchan at The Forum. The 2025 festival welcomed 9,000 visitors a day!

The Norwich Games Festival is now managed and organised by The Forum and benefits from a broad team of staff and volunteers.

This video from the 2018 festival by Norwich University of the Arts really showcases the energy of the event.

Enjoy these (almost historical!) interviews from the first festival in 2014!

We’d love to hear about the event you’ve got in mind.
